Item Description
3.5x5.5". Series of seven Detroit tigers postcards issued between 1907-09, this example depicts a caricature of Detroit Tigers National Baseball Hall of Fame player/manager, Hugh Jennings riding a sleigh comprised of baseball bats while being pulled in front by a tiger with a "D" on his baseball cap. Identification at top on front reads "Hughie and His Tigers". Credit along right border on front and at bottom on back both notate "All Rights Reserved H.M. Taylor". The 1907 Detroit Tigers finished the regular season in first place in the American League with a won-loss record of 92-58-3. Unfortunately, Detroit would lose the 1907 World Series to the National League powerhouse, Chicago Cubs in five games. Hughie Jennings spent his early years with the Baltimore Orioles dynasty of the 1890s before moving on to Detroit where he would eventually become a National Baseball Hall of Famer as both a shortstop and manager. Jennings was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. Postcard has never been mailed with just a very small notation on back in pencil "$3.00". Image on front displays superbly for the grade.
