Item Description
Toy has overall size of 4.75x8.75x5.75" tall and depicts Mickey Mouse from the waist up, seated in chariot style cart holding ribbon reins attached to figure of Horace Horsecollar, who has separate wheel on underside of body and pulls cart. Toy is mostly celluloid and Horace was manuafactured w/o rear legs as designed. Produced in a larger scale than most Disney celluloid toys of the era, toy was made in Japan, 1930s. Back of cart still has original string price tag from San Francisco, CA store, noting original purchae price of 69¢. Toy has built-in key in back and when wound, toy drives in circles as Horace's front end goes up and down as if galloping and Mickey figure rocks back and forth. Mickey's head has slight aging/fade to black areas (more noticeable on back of head) and one side of his snout has shallow dent. Both arm strings are slightly loose and would benefit from re-stringing. Reins have scattered aging and Horace figure has slight fade to pink area of face and body. VF overall. Toy works well. Charming design. Among the rarest of all Disney celluloid toys; we know of only two other examples, this being the first we've offered in our 58 years. Philip Samuels Collection.
