Item Description
2-3/8x2-7/8". Goudey Gum Co.’s first baseball card issue was a 239 card set released in 1933. Cards feature choice color art front and bio text backs. Ott spent his entire MLB career w/the New York Giants from 1926-47, eventually adding a managerial role to his lifetime accomplishments. He was an 11-time All-Star and World Series champion in 1933 and, most impressively, one of baseball’s earliest 500 home run club members, finishing his career w/511. In addition, Mel compiled a lifetime .304 batting average to go along w/1,860 RBI’s and 1,859 runs scored, finishing w/a career OPS of .947. Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1951. Since this ’33 Goudey is Mel Ott’s earliest mainstream card release, many collectors consider this to be a rookie card, although he does have earlier regional card issues.
