Item Description
From same set as previous six lots.  Joe Wood began his MLB career w/the Boston Red Sox in 1908 and would spend his initial eight seasons w/the club, including one of the greatest years ever compiled by a starting pitcher. In 1912, Wood finished w/a league leading won-loss record of 34-5 for a .872 winning percentage and a miniscule ERA of 1.91 and 258 strikeouts to go w/another league leading stat, 10 shutouts. Unfortunately Joe would suffer an injury that would end his pitching career but he was versatile enough to move to the outfield and enjoy five productive batting seasons w/the Cleveland Indians from 1918-22. Bold signature in blue is to left of his image w/added bonus “34-5” inscribed below. At time of cataloging, PSA/DNA pop report indicates that this signed example is one of only two ever graded by PSA and is the single highest.
