Item Description
From same set as previous lot. Mordecai Brown began his MLB career w/the St. Louis Cardinals in 1903, spending only one season there before moving on to the Chicago Cubs in 1904, where he would remain through the 1912 season. Brown would become the ace of the Cubs pitching staff, anchoring one of the greatest dynasties in MLB history as Chicago won three straight National League pennants from 1906-08, setting the all-time record for team victories in 1906 w/116 (since broken by the Seattle Mariners utilizing a 162 game schedule as compared to 154 back in 1906). Mordecai compiled career numbers of 239-130 along w/a miniscule 2.06 ERA and 1,375 strikeouts. Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1949. At time of cataloging, PSA pop report indicates that this is one of only four examples graded at this level w/only eight others ever graded higher.
