Item Description
8.5x10”. Series of 100 sepia-toned supplements issued by the Sporting News from 1909-13. Most of the supplements feature full-length poses of the players w/each being labeled “Supplement to the Sporting News” w/the issue date at top. At bottom is a box with player’s name and team. Backs are usually blank but some have been found w/newspaper imprints. Printed on heavy paper and condition issues such as creasing are the norm. Initially issued in a size of roughly 7.5x10" beginning in July, 1909, the format switched to 8.5x10” later that year with team supplements measuring 16x10”. Frank “Home Run” Baker began his MLB career w/the Philadelphia Athletics in 1908 and would remain there for the next seven seasons before joining the New York Yankees in 1916 and spending the remainder of his career there through the 1922 season. Baker would finish w/a .307 career batting average to go along w/96 home runs and 991 RBI’s. Frank led the American League in homers for four consecutive seasons from 1911-14 and was a three-time World Series champion. Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955. At time of cataloging, PSA pop report indicates that this is one of only six examples graded at this level w/only two others ever graded higher.
