Item Description
9-1/8x12" display board has 5.75x5.75" thin artboard affixed w/clear plastic corner mounts. Artboard features pen and ink original art w/image within 3" dia. circle w/hand-lettered squadron name at bottom. Art depicts the insignia of the 391st Bombardment Squadron, a bird holding a bomb target. First activated at Langley Field, VA in Jan. 1943 as the 1st Reconnaissance Squadron, the squadron became the 391st Bombardment Squadron in May 1942, becoming a B-17 Replacement Training Unit (RTU) before serving w/the Ninth Air Force in Europe, supporting the D-Day invasion and the campaign that followed. The 391st continues to this day as the 91st Air Refueling Squadron. Art has handwritten "Blue And Yellow" color notation at upper right and upper left has pasted colored stat (applied upside down) of how the finished button would look. Art remains clean and Exc.
