Item Description
Sizes are 5/8” to 1.25”. In row 4 the first two are litho and all others are cello. Group begins with five picturing a horse with the first dated for “1912 Horse Day In Philadelphia” and the first five all include an acronym “S.P.C.A.” or text reference to a Human Society For the Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals. Remaining eight buttons all picture a dog. Slogans include “Kindness Brings Happiness”, “Our Merciful Band”, “Justice And Mercy To All”. Row 3, #1 has numerous but light hairline scratches in reflected light and #3 has a single hairline mark. In row 4 first litho has thin paint on the extreme outer edge. This is from “Santa Clara Co. Humane Society.” Many rare pieces from the early 1900s growing movement which brought animal cruelty into the broader American consciousness.
